And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
The Believers Form a Community
42All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lords Supper*), and to prayer.
43A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lords Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity*47all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Have you ever tried to complete a Lego set without using the instructions? If you have, you know that what you built probably didn’t look like the image on the box. Trying to put together all of those weirdly shaped pieces can be difficult without knowing which ones need to go where. When you do follow the instructions, though, the Lego set is complete and looks as it should. This is because the person who made the instructions also made the Lego set itself, so they know exactly what pieces should go where.
Like the Lego set’s creator, God gave us instructions for our lives through the Bible, and he knows what is best for us because he made us. Let’s take a deeper look into Acts 2:42-47 and see what instructions the believers followed for living with one another.
Lord, thank you for giving us friendships that we can enjoy and grow in. Thank you for other believers who can help me grow in my relationship with you. Thank you for your Word that guides and teaches us.
