Who gets the credit?

Key Verse | Acts 5:16

The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

Acts 5:12-16

The Apostles Heal Many

12The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon’s Colonnade. 13But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them. 14Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord—crowds of both men and women. 15As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by. 16Crowds came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil* spirits, and they were all healed.

Who Gets the Credit?

In this passage, something amazing keeps happening: people are healed, crowds gather, and more men and women believe in the Lord. But notice this important detail: no one is cheering for Peter. No one is building a stage for the apostles. The focus stays on what God is doing.

The miracles were signs pointing to Jesus. God used the apostles, but God alone had the power.

That’s still true today.

When God helps you be kind…
When you tell the truth…
When you pray for someone…
When someone sees Jesus in you…

Who gets the credit?

God does.

Think About It

  • Why do you think God performed miracles through the apostles?
  • Do you think God still changes lives today? How?
  • What is one way you can point people to Jesus instead of pointing to yourself?

Live It Out

This week, practice giving God the credit. If someone thanks you for being kind, you could say, “God’s teaching me to love people better.” If you feel nervous about telling someone about Jesus, ask God for courage like he gave the apostles.

Remember: God loves to use ordinary people who trust him.

Pray:

Jesus, thank you for being powerful and good. Help me trust you, obey you, and give you all the glory. Shine through my life so others can see you clearly. Amen
