What happened at Solomon’s Portico?

Key Verse | Acts 5:12

Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico.

Acts 5:12-16

The Apostles Heal Many

12The apostles were performing many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon’s Colonnade. 13But no one else dared to join them, even though all the people had high regard for them. 14Yet more and more people believed and were brought to the Lord—crowds of both men and women. 15As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by. 16Crowds came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil* spirits, and they were all healed.

Signs, Wonders, and Bold Faith

Have you ever seen something that made you stop and stare? Maybe a magic trick, a huge firework show, or a rainbow after a storm. When something amazing happens, people gather around to see it.

In Acts 5:12–16, we see something even more incredible than fireworks. God was moving powerfully through the apostles. People were being healed. Lives were being changed. And crowds were gathering, not because the apostles were famous, but because God was at work.

Today, grab your “Bible detective notebook” and look closely at what’s happening in these verses.

As you read Acts 5:12–16, answer these questions:

  • Where were the believers meeting together?
  • What kinds of things were happening through the apostles?
  • How did the people feel about the believers?
  • What kept happening to the number of believers (v. 14)?
  • What surprises you most in this passage?

Challenge:

  • Try to find one word that is repeated or emphasized.
  • Why do you think Luke included that detail?
  • What does it show us about God?

Pray:

God, thank you for working through your people. Open our eyes to see what you are doing in your Word and in our lives today. Help us notice what matters most and trust your good work. Amen.
