In Many Tongues!

When Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem, the Jewish people were throwing a party! During the party (a.k.a the Feast of Pentecost), the Jews would celebrate the gathering of the harvest and thank God that he provided a harvest for them. A “harvest” meant that their plants produced food for them. People from all over the world were in Jerusalem to celebrate this feast.

After the Holy Spirit filled each of the disciples, they spoke in other languages that were not their own so that everyone in Jerusalem would be able to understand the Good News of Jesus. This was a great sign of God’s power to the people in Jerusalem who did not know Jesus. This event demonstrated that God loves people from all nations and wants everyone to know him. Today, God still wants to know every person, regardless of what language they speak or where they live.
