Central Truth
Your intimate relationship with your spouse is a DIRECT REFLECTION of your intimate relationship with the Lord.
Set me like a cylinder seal over your heart,
like a signet on your arm.
For love is as strong as death,
passion is as unrelenting as Sheol.
Its flames burst forth,
it is a blazing flame.
(Song of Solomon 8:6)
1
Oh that you were like a brother to me
who nursed at my mother's breasts!
If I found you outside, I would kiss you,
and none would despise me.
2
I would lead you and bring you
into the house of my mother—
she who used to teach me.
I would give you spiced wine to drink,
the juice of my pomegranate.
3
His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand embraces me!
4
I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.
5
Who is that coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on her beloved?
Under the apple tree I awakened you.
There your mother was in labor with you;
there she who bore you was in labor.
6
Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is strong as death,
jealousy

Or ardor
is fierce as the grave.
2
8:6
Hebrew as Sheol
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
the very flame of the LORD.
7
Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
all the wealth of his house,
he

Or it
would be utterly despised.
8
We have a little sister,
and she has no breasts.
What shall we do for our sister
on the day when she is spoken for?
9
If she is a wall,
we will build on her a battlement of silver,
but if she is a door,
we will enclose her with boards of cedar.
10
I was a wall,
and my breasts were like towers;
then I was in his eyes
as one who finds

Or brings out
peace.
11
Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon;
he let out the vineyard to keepers;
each one was to bring for its fruit a thousand pieces of silver.
12
My vineyard, my very own, is before me;
you, O Solomon, may have the thousand,
and the keepers of the fruit two hundred.
13
O you who dwell in the gardens,
with companions listening for your voice;
let me hear it.
14
Make haste, my beloved,
and be like a gazelle
or a young stag
on the mountains of spices.
Based on my experience, EVERYTHING! We hear songs, poems, articles, books, conversations, and seminars about it. We seek professional counseling related to it. Most importantly, the Bible mentions LOVE numerous times. We've heard and know, "GOD is LOVE!" (1 John 4:8, 16)
When my spouse communicates that she feels my love, she's confirming that she feels the love of Christ flowing through me to her. Sometimes, we take the love our spouse feels for us for granted. Yes, we are wired differently, but we MUST be sensitive and aware of the genuine love our spouse has for us. This marks (seals) the outward sign of our relationship with the Lord. Even Solomon, with all of his wisdom, didn't get it. If Solomon only knew that the Shulammite woman's love for him was as intense as the bridegroom's love is for the bride, he would have committed only to her.
If we are to compare the two, could the Shulammite woman's love be like Christ's love for the Church, and we are like Solomon to Christ? (Ephesians 5:22-33) Our spouses desire us to love them and display the love we have for them daily.
I believe the Lord feels the same way. Paul states that without love, we are a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. (1 Corinthians 13:1) Why would we want anything other than to experience the fullness of ABBA'S LOVE for US? The love of the Lord is the WELLSPRING of LIFE. Genuine intimacy in our relationship is the FRUIT. The Lord longs for that same intimate relationship with us. It goes well beyond the physical aspects of human contact.
The true plan of God for marriage is one man and one woman. (Genesis 1:27-28) Pure marital love is the strongest, most unyielding, and invincible force in our human experience. When lovers speak and fully engage in martial love, they truly experience the depths of love the Lord has for them. (John 3:16)
So, when you need a clear understanding of love, ASK the LORD! (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
We love, because HE first LOVED us.
1. Does your love reflect the love the Lord has for you?
2. Is your LOVE FLAME a bonfire or a match stick?
3. If we asked your spouse how you love him/her, how would your spouse answer?
4. Love is contagious, is YOURS worth CATCHING?
