This month's memory verse

Romans 8:13-14

For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Missionary Adoniram Judson

Key Verse | Acts 8:1

And Saul approved of his execution.

And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

Acts 8:1-3

Acts of the Apostles 8

1Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen.

Persecution Scatters the Believers

A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria. 2(Some devout men came and buried Stephen with great mourning.) 3But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison.

Learn about Missionary Adoniram Judson

Throughout history, there are many people who have left their homes to go tell others about Jesus—some even going to other countries to share that Good News. These people are called missionaries.

In 1813, one of the first missionaries, Adoniram Judson, left his home in Massachusetts to travel to India with the hope of sharing Jesus with the people in India. Adoniram and his wife Ann ended up moving to Burma, where they preached the Gospel to the people, even when it was dangerous. Just like Saul and the crowds in Acts 7-8, the people in Burma did not want the news of Jesus to spread, causing Adoniram and the believers to be persecuted.

Today, learn more about Adoniram’s bravery and trust in God while being a missionary in Burma by watching The Torchlighters: Adoniram Judson Story video.
