What happened in our story?

Key Verse | Acts 3:6-7

But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong.

Acts 3:1-10

Acts of the Apostles 3

Peter Heals a Crippled Beggar

1Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. 2As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. 3When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money.

4Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, “Look at us!” 5The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. 6But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene,* get up and* walk!”

7Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. 8He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them.

9All the people saw him walking and heard him praising God. 10When they realized he was the lame beggar they had seen so often at the Beautiful Gate, they were absolutely astounded!

What happened first?

Today, think about the story’s timeline. Using the Beggar’s Healing print out, cut and paste the images into the correct sequence of events. As you complete the activity, answer the questions about the story.

  1. How do you think the beggar’s disability affected his daily life?
  2. What do you think the beggar felt when he was able to stand again?
  3. Who was the one that healed the beggar in the story?
  4. Who does this story ultimately point to?

The beggar, expecting to get money, got so much when he was healed by God through Peter and John. He not only got his ability to be independent, he got to know the truth that God is real! That God loved him and wanted to know him. He was changed so much, that he went away rejoicing, as he had found not just physical healing, but spiritual healing too. The miracle of the beggar’s healing points us to Jesus, who heals us both physically and spiritually.
