Psalm 92

How Great Are Your Works

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.

  It is good to give thanks to the LORD,
    to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
  to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
    and your faithfulness by night,
  to the music of the lute and the harp,
    to the melody of the lyre.
  For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work;
    at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
  How great are your works, O LORD!
    Your thoughts are very deep!
  The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:
  that though the wicked sprout like grass
    and all evildoers flourish,
  they are doomed to destruction forever;
    but you, O LORD, are on high forever.
  For behold, your enemies, O LORD,
    for behold, your enemies shall perish;
    all evildoers shall be scattered.
10   But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox;
    you have poured over me1 fresh oil.
11   My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
    my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.
12   The righteous flourish like the palm tree
    and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13   They are planted in the house of the LORD;
    they flourish in the courts of our God.
14   They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
15   to declare that the LORD is upright;
    he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Bio | Caryn Blocker

Hi! I'm Caryn: beloved daughter of the King, wife to Truman (my favorite human) for 23 years, and mom to Jack, Kate, Ellie, and Annie (favorite humans #2 thru #5. They know where they fall in that order). I love to laugh with and take pictures of those humans—especially when they happen to be in my happy place: Colorado. I watch a lot of soccer (the favorites all play—a lot), but I don't play. My MOST favorite is Jesus. I will be eternally grateful for ALL that He has done!

Central Truth

If we choose to declare God's steadfast love for us, His faithfulness will be undeniable!

Feeling and resting in the unfailing love of God has been a struggle for me (It was a big step to write about my “beloved” status in my bio). I know in my head and my heart that God is sovereign and holy and good and faithful. And I know in my head that He loves me in a personal, unfailing, unconditional way. The Bible says He does, so it is true, but a lot of times I wish I understood that awesome, crazy love on a more personal level.

Lately, through a series of painful events, the Lord has been teaching me a lot about His love. He has shown me that the love I have longed to feel has been there all along. I have to choose to believe it and receive it even when I don’t necessarily feel it. Choose to believe, and the feelings will follow.

As I read and reread Psalm 92, the Lord revealed more to me about His unfailing love. Psalm 92:1-2 says, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.”

The Lord has shown me that if I will declare (proclaim, assert, acknowledge) His steadfast (fixed, unwavering, purposeful, firmly established) love for me in the “morning” (the start of a new day, the beginning of a season of life, in the midst of a difficult trial), and filter everything that happens through the lens of that steadfast love, then I will have no choice but to declare his faithfulness at “night” (at the end of a difficult day, month, year, or season of life).

When I choose to believe and receive His love and declare it, even in those times I don’t feel it, I will see it everywhere I look. I won’t be able to escape it! He is crazy about me and you, and He is constantly working on our behalf. He is faithful. Declaring His steadfast love in the morning will make us “glad by [His] work; at the works of [His] hands [we] sing for joy.” (Psalm 92:4)
