Meet Elizabeth Tamlyn

Sometimes referred to as the second volume of Luke, the book of Acts tells the amazing story of the coming of the Holy Spirit, the establishment of the early church, and the spread of the gospel from Jerusalem to the end of the earth. Notice the two verbs in our key passage that represent the basic story of this book: RECEIVE (the Holy Spirit) and GO (tell everyone everywhere about Jesus)! Those words weren't just for the early church. They are for us, too.

God gives us what we need by equipping us with a Helper—the Holy Spirit—who is always with us, teaches us, and guides us (John 16:5-15). Jesus left earth and sent the Spirit, who did amazing miracles in the newly formed church. We are privileged to have the book of Acts to remind us of the miracles of their day. But we are also privileged to have the SAME Holy Spirit alive and well today and living in each of us when we trust Jesus for our salvation. We may not see the same types of miracles that the early church saw, but we see the Holy Spirit at work just as much today when we see lives changed by the goodness and transforming power of God. God equips us with this Spirit then sends us to go and represent Him. We have opportunities every day at home, in our own communities, and sometimes even farther away to show the love of God to others, share our story of grace, and ask others to join us in this journey. We wouldn't have the gospel today if the early church had not obeyed and spread the Word.

We have the same charge that the early church had: receive and go, near and far, anyone and everyone. You have all you need if you have trusted in Jesus!
