Central Truth

There is no greater love than that of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Now go tell it on the mountains; our Lord is holy, holy, holy. He is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.

Key Verse | Psalm 89:1

I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever;
with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
(Psalm 89:1)

Psalm 89:1-18

I Will Sing of the Steadfast Love of the LORD

A Maskil 1 89:1 Probably a musical or liturgical term of Ethan the Ezrahite.

I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever;
    with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever;
    in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.”
You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one;
    I have sworn to David my servant:
‘I will establish your offspring forever,
    and build your throne for all generations.’” Selah

Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD,
    your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones!
For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD?
    Who among the heavenly beings 2 89:6 Hebrew the sons of God, or the sons of might is like the LORD,
a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones,
    and awesome above all who are around him?
O LORD God of hosts,
    who is mighty as you are, O LORD,
    with your faithfulness all around you?
You rule the raging of the sea;
    when its waves rise, you still them.
10  You crushed Rahab like a carcass;
    you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
11  The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours;
    the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.
12  The north and the south, you have created them;
    Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.
13  You have a mighty arm;
    strong is your hand, high your right hand.
14  Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
    steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
15  Blessed are the people who know the festal shout,
    who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face,
16  who exult in your name all the day
    and in your righteousness are exalted.
17  For you are the glory of their strength;
    by your favor our horn is exalted.
18  For our shield belongs to the LORD,
    our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Dive Deeper | Psalm 89:1-18

All the time God is good. God is good all the time. How often do we hear this? How often are we really listening and being intentional in our statements? Has God’s goodness become routine for you? Is praising the Lord something you just do, like brushing your teeth? I want to encourage you today not to settle for mediocrity in worship and praise. God is SO good. Doesn’t He deserve our best efforts? Absolutely!

Life has a tendency to become routine, but your worship for the Lord doesn’t have to. Do you crave intimacy and excitement? Then I encourage you to yield today to the Spirit within you and sing out in praise like never before! Maybe singing isn’t your thing. God doesn’t adhere to our confines and boundaries of what worship should or shouldn’t be. Pour your heart out in a letter, take a walk, or drive your car through the countryside. Find a way to connect with your Creator and marvel in His majesty.

It’s so easy to settle for Sunday morning three-song worship, but God deserves so much more than that. The Psalms encourage you to sing with all creation; praise Him with all that you are and in all that you do. When you live a life fruitful of praise in every state of being, you are witnessing well and discipling others around you without even realizing it. You will make known His faithfulness to all generations with your mouth, your actions, how you love one another, and how you handle conflict at work and at home.

Be encouraged to extend grace today. Make amends. Reach out and reconcile broken relationships. Encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ. Stop at nothing to live like He did, love like He does, and bear fruit from the Spirit within you.
