Central Truth
Our relationship with God begins with a childlike faith. When we faithfully trust that He will guide our path, advise us, and watch over us, we are able to serve faithfully and glorify Him as we were intended to do.
"For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake,
But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you,
And My covenant of peace will not be shaken,"
Says the LORD who has compassion on you.
(Isaiah 54:10)
1
“Sing, O barren one, who did not bear;
break forth into singing and cry aloud,
you who have not been in labor!
For the children of the desolate one will be more
than the children of her who is married,” says the LORD.
2
“Enlarge the place of your tent,
and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out;
do not hold back; lengthen your cords
and strengthen your stakes.
3
For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left,
and your offspring will possess the nations
and will people the desolate cities.
4
Fear not, for you will not be ashamed;
be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced;
for you will forget the shame of your youth,
and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
5
For your Maker is your husband,
the LORD of hosts is his name;
and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer,
the God of the whole earth he is called.
6
For the LORD has called you
like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit,
like a wife of youth when she is cast off,
says your God.
7
For a brief moment I deserted you,
but with great compassion I will gather you.
8
In overflowing anger for a moment
I hid my face from you,
but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,”
says the LORD, your Redeemer.
9
“This is like the days of Noah

to me:
as I swore that the waters of Noah
should no more go over the earth,
so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you,
and will not rebuke you.
10
For the mountains may depart
and the hills be removed,
but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,
and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,”
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

“O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted,
behold, I will set your stones in antimony,
and lay your foundations with sapphires.

I will make your pinnacles of agate,

13
All your children shall be taught by the LORD,
and great shall be the peace of your children.
14
In righteousness you shall be established;
you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear;
and from terror, for it shall not come near you.
15
If anyone stirs up strife,
it is not from me;
whoever stirs up strife with you
shall fall because of you.
16
Behold, I have created the smith
who blows the fire of coals
and produces a weapon for its purpose.
I have also created the ravager to destroy;
17
no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed,
and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD
and their vindication

Or righteousness
from me, declares the LORD.”
I have always loved being around kids, especially because of the way they see each day with so much joy and enthusiasm. I am a teacher, but it seems as though I am the one continuously being taught by my students in school and ministry. I love experiencing their excitement, enthusiasm, and faith!
Kids do not require a complete intellectual understanding of their circumstances, but accept a loving touch or tender words as enough. They continue to trust in their caregivers to provide the love and peace that they need.
Through this passage the prophet Isaiah explains the comfort, deliverance, and hope God promises. Even when everything is shaken, God's promises will never be broken. God will rebuke and correct our sins, but He will never cast us off.
As followers of Christ, we are commanded to trust in the Lord and the promises He has assured us. (Proverbs 3:5-6) When we approach God with childlike attitudes (Luke 18:17) of acceptance, faith, and trust, we no longer feel the need to try to understand everything that is going on around us because God is sovereign, and His love and forgiveness for us are more than enough. A childlike faith allows us humbly to step down, obey His commands, and allow Him to use us for His glory. This is the kind of faith that will cause others to ask, "What do you have that I don't have?"
As I interact with my kids daily, I am continually reminded of what it looks like to have a childlike faith in Christ no matter what chaos is going on all around me. When I decide to make plans selfishly that build up my kingdom and not His, I fail to trust that He will guide me along the best path in my life, advise me, and watch over me. (Psalm 32:8) Pray to the Lord that He will spark a fire in your heart that allows you to possess a childlike faith in your wonderful and merciful Creator whose faithful love endures forever!
1. Am I approaching God in childish ways or with a childlike faith?
2. When have you been most filled with childlike faith?
3. What people in Scripture can encourage us because they have demonstrated this kind of childlike faith?
4. What area(s) of my life can I give up to God and entrust Him today?
WEEKLY FAMILY ACTIVITY
ISAIAH 51-55 (MAR 14-18)
Read Isaiah 53.
To whom does this chapter refer?
Activity: Fold a piece of paper in half, longwise. At the top of the left side, write "The Prophecy (Isaiah 53);" on the right side, write "It Happened! (New Testament)." Read each Isaiah verse and look in the New Testament (specifically the Gospels) for verses that show the prophecy coming true. Fill in the chart with what you find. Here are a few examples: Isaiah 53:2/Luke 2:52; Isaiah 53:5/John 19:34; Isaiah 53:9/Matthew 27:57-60; and Isaiah 53:12/Mark 15:27. Look for others!
Isn't it awesome that Isaiah prophesied about Jesus coming to be the Savior of the world? Have you put your trust in Him and accepted His gift of bearing your sins (verse 12)?
